The Potential Trust – the charity which supports children and young people with High Learning Potential and Dual and Multiple Exceptionalities – welcomes Stephanie Lee You Voon and Gary Fyles onto its Board of Trustees.
In welcoming the new Trustees, Denise Yates, Chair of the Potential Trust said:
“We are very lucky to have recruited such talented individuals onto our Board. Both Stephanie and Gary have an amazing set of skills and the passion for supporting bright children to help enthuse their learning. We have big plans for The Potential Trust and I am looking forward to the contribution that both of them can make to our work in raising awareness of the needs of children and young people with high learning potential and in ensuring we increase the support we give to those from low income backgrounds to help them on their journey through education.”
Stephanie is a Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) student and ambassador at the University of Warwick. She also volunteers in the United Nations External Youth Engagement Group, collaborating with fellow members and relevant institutions to give a voice to young people, run awareness campaigns and propose policies to promote intergenerational equity and sustainable development.
Stephanie brings her experience as scout leader to the development of initiatives aiming to make a difference in the community. During her spare time, Stephanie is a national chess player and represented Mauritius at the International Olympiad. She also served as co-organiser of chess workshops in schools and promoted the national chess federation at the National Sports Fair welcoming thousands of attendees.
In joining The Potential Trust, Stephanie said:
“I realise the huge difference getting support can make in a person’s life, be it financially, academically or psychologically. I am excited about bringing my skills and experience to the service of helping young people, especially those whose high potential could be supported through our work. Joining The Potential Trust is a treasured opportunity to help youngsters thrive in their own unique way to unlock their full potential. I look forward to sharing my global perspective and collaborating with other Trustees to contribute to the Trust’s commitment to empower these young people.”
Gary is a qualified teacher and a passionate champion of accelerated learning. He is a coach, author, teacher, trainer and business entrepreneur. He runs a publishing company – ThinkingBigger Ltd – which was created to promote learning, positive mindsets, self-esteem and mindfulness in children and adults through coaching and publications.
Gary is also one of the Board members of Let’s Think, an organisation which develops the intelligence of all pupils by improving their thinking processes. He is also one of the Directors of BrainyBudz a UK-based non-profit social enterprise and community interest company dedicated to mentoring and upskilling neurodiverse individuals, including those who have high learning potential or dual and multiple exceptionalities.
In becoming a Trustee of The Potential trust, Gary said:
It is a privilege to join the board of Trustees for Potential Trust. Throughout my career, I’ve focused on motivating students and colleagues to maintain the highest aspirations, believing in this opportunity for all. DME and HLP children should be no exception and I’m keen to support them in being seen and heard.”
